Building on the success of Wonderland Magazine and our engagement in contemporary art, in 2008 we opened the gallery WAS – Wonderland Art Space in Vesterbro, Copenhagen. With ambitions to both explore and challenge the perception of contemporary art, WAS presented a wide range of Danish and international artists. WAS showcased contemporary art diversity showing works by both young upcoming artists and internationally recognized heavyweights such as Jonathan Meese and David Shrigley.
In 2010-2011 WAS represented its own artists: Helle Mardahl, Andreas Emenius, Annesofie Sandal, Brian Ravnholt Jepsen, and Armsrock.
After 3 exciting years with amazing art and great success, the gallery was closed in July 2011 when Wonderland decided to focus on other activities.
In 2008, WAS were chosen as “Best Gallery in Copenhagen” by the users of the Danish web-portal AOK. WAS were also nominated for Danish newspaper Politikens “IBYEN” award in 2008 and 2009.
